"The Hands of Light School of Tai Chi and Qi Gong has been established since 1995. The schools founder is Iain Naylor who has been practicing Tai Chi and Qi Gong since 1980. The School teaches and supports over 40 regular classes, throughout Tayside and the Scottish Borders. Training courses are offered to health and well-being practitioners. Since 2005, the school has offered yearly culture and training trips to China with our Chinese partner."

Iain began studying tai chi in 1980 and founded the Hands of Light school of tai chi and qi gong in 1995 then in 2000 established the second branch of the school in the Scottish Borders. Iain has studied many aspects of tai chi but his main interest is in the health benefits it can bring and this forms the core of teaching at the school. Since establishing the school Iain has worked for many different public and private organisations in the community and the health and educational sectors. Since 1995 Iain has continued his own training attending workshops at Tai Chi Caledonia and with Dr Yang Jwing Ming. In 2004 Hands of Light brought Master Chen Lei to Scotland and Iain has trained with him ever since. Between 2005 and 2008 Iain has also trained regularly in China at Beijing Sports University, Wenxian International wushu training centre, Wudang academy of Taoist Kung-Fu and at the Shaolin Epo Kung-fu school. Iain has studied several forms of Qi Gong, the 42 posture International combined styles competition tai chi form and pa kua with Grand master Xu Xi Zi, Chen sword at the Wenxian International wushu training centre, San Feng tai chi at the Wudang Academy of Taoist Kung-Fu and the Shaolin staff form with Master Zhong Li Wei. Iain teaches a wide range of tai chi and qi gong forms and is planning to return to Wudang mountain to study Taoist tai chi. |

Carol is Iains’ partner, she has recently retired from 28 years employment in the NHS with skills and experience in project management, training, community rehabilitation and health promotion. Carol has 10 years experience in Tai Chi and Chi Gong, training with Master Chen Lei, Dr Yang Jwing Ming, Beijing Sports University, Wenxian International wushu training centre, Wudang academy of Taoist Kung-Fu, the Shaolin Epo Kung-fu school and with Hands of Light. Carol has joined Iain in Hands of Light and is responsible for training courses for health practitioners and teaches beginners classes in Selkirk and Dundee. Carol is also mentoring Trish Gray in her teacher training in Selkirk. |

John is the senior instructor for Hands of Light in the Scottish Borders and also runs Borders Martial Arts. He began his training in the martial arts in 1981 studying Judo. He began to learn the Chinese arts in 1989 and in 1996 studied Lau Gar kung-fu. In 1999 he gained his first degree black sash in Lau Gar and took up kick boxing. In 2004 John started to study tai chi with Hands of Light and the following year travelled with the school to study in China. John now holds 3rd degree black sash in kickboxing and 4th degree in Lau Gar kung-fu and is a Level 2 instructor and Member of the Register of Exercise Professionals. John continues to train regularly in tai chi and kung-fu and teaches in the Eastern Scottish Borders. John is also a teacher of practical self-defence. |

Lynn has been a student of tai chi since 1998 and has been learning hand and weapons forms from then. As well as studying with hands of Light she has attend Tai Chi Caledonia most years where she continues to learn new aspects of the art. Here Lynn learned the Wushu Rainbow Fan Form of the Kong Tong School with Anna Zwettler and on another occassion part of the Traditional Yang sword form and Dragon Chi Kung, a form based on Bagua. Lynn continues to study with Anna and also with Shelagh Grandpierre from who she has been learning the Traditional Yang long form since 2001. Lynn has also been to several workshops in Nottingham taught by her master, Christopher Pei, the President of the United States Wushu Academy from who she learnt the Traditional Yang sabre form. Lynn started horse riding in 2006 and that year attended a workshop “Tai Chi for Equestrians”, taught by James Shaw, an internationally known riding coach. Lynn currently teaches two classes, one in Perth the other in Dundee and regularly holds fan form workshops. |

Pats background is as a teacher in secondary and further education. She has been studying tai chi with Hands of Light since 2000 and joined the teacher training program in 2003. The following year she began to teach her first class. Between 2004 and 2008 she attended several workshops with Master Chen Lei and studied tai chi fan form firstly with Lynn Almond and then with Anna Zwettler. With her interest in the health aspects of tai chi and qi gong Pat is now undertaking a course of study into Traditional Chinese Medicine Theory. Pat teaches in the Central and Southern Scottish Borders. |

First watched tai chi at a workshop near her home in 1997 and was so impressed that she soon found a local class to attend on a regular basis. In 2002 after five years of study, Tricia started to teach her first class and now teaches two classes in Dundee. Trisha continues to train in that first class but with encouragement from Iain has found new avenues to explore and now also trains in the traditional Yang style long form with Lynda Rossmann and Sheilagh Grandpierre and the fan form with Anna Zwettler. |

Fiona has been practicing Tai Chi with Hands of Light in the Borders for 6 years and joined the teacher training programme 2 years ago. She is being mentored by Iain and deputises for him in his Kelso class. She was amongst the first group of students to travel to China in 2005 and returned in 2008 to study Taoist tai chi at Wudang mountain. |

Trish Gray started Student Teacher training in April '08 with the Hands of Light Selkirk class, Carol is Trish's mentor. Trish has been practicing Tai Chi for 5 years both with Hands of Light and Infinite Tai Chi. Along with other members of the Selkirk class, Trish visited China in '07 and took part in training with the Shaolin Monks, at Chen Village and the Sport and Culture International Co-operation.' |

Lilla has a background in dance. She was introduced to tai chi in 1997 when she watched a demonstration and was impressed by the grace and power of the movements. She started learning tai chi the following year and in 2003 began to teach and now holds four classes across north eastern Perthshire. Lilla continues to study tai chi with Lynda Rossmann and Sheilagh Grandpierre and has completed a course with Dr. Paul Lamm to teach Tai Chi for Arthritis. |

Joyce has 6 years Tai Chi experience and practices several forms, she has trained in China twice and takes full advantage of senior training workshops, Joyce started instructor training in April 2009. |
